Lee Jae-myung Elected Presidential Candidate for Democratic Party

Seoul: Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, who is the front-runner in opinion polls for the upcoming presidential election, won the party's presidential nomination Sunday. The human rights lawyer-turned-politician secured a commanding 89.77 percent of all votes cast in the party's primary, positioning himself as a strong contender in the upcoming election.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee, who was narrowly defeated by former President Yoon Suk Yeol by 0.73 percentage point in the 2022 election, has made a significant comeback with this nomination. The Democratic Party aims to rally behind him as the presidential election, scheduled for June 3, approaches. With the primary win, Lee has solidified his status as the party's choice to challenge for the presidency once more.
