Sejong: President Lee Jae Myung expressed his condolences on Friday following the death of an interior ministry official involved in restoring online government services disrupted by a recent fire.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the official, who was leading a team focused on recovery efforts, fell to his death at the government complex in Sejong. The tragic incident occurred as the official was diligently working to address the outage caused by a fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon.
President Lee paid tribute to the official on Facebook, highlighting his dedication and responsibility in alleviating public inconvenience and restoring government functions. “I pray for the repose of the deceased, who dedicated himself until the very last moment of his life to fulfill his mission as a public servant,” Lee stated, expressing shared sorrow and mourning with the nation.
The fire, which erupted last Friday, severely damaged batteries and servers, impacting 647 online government services. President Lee assured the nation that the late official’s sacrifice and devotion would not be forgotten, emphasizing his behind-the-scenes efforts to restore daily life and help the country overcome the crisis.
In the evening following the incident, Kang Hoon-sik, Lee’s chief of staff, and Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, attended the official’s funeral in Sejong to pay their respects.
