Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is set to hold a summit with Vietnam’s top leader To Lam on Monday to discuss cooperation in economy, energy, technology, and other fields with the key trading partner. Lam, general secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party, arrived in Seoul on Sunday for a four-day state visit, marking the first visit by a foreign leader since Lee took office in early June.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two leaders will engage in in-depth talks on political, security, trade, and investment issues, alongside discussions on future strategic areas like nuclear power, high-speed rail, smart cities, and science and technology. The presidential office indicated that these discussions aim to strengthen the bond between the two nations.
Later in the day, President Lee will host a state dinner, which will see attendance from leaders of major economic organizations and businesses, alongside prominent figures from various sectors. This event underscores the importance of the visit and the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Vietnam holds significant importance for South Korea, being its third-largest trading nation and a major partner for cooperation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Currently, more than 10,000 Korean companies are operating in Vietnam, highlighting the economic ties between the two nations.
