President Lee Jae Myung will send a group of special envoys to China on Sunday to discuss ways to improve bilateral relations, the presidential office said Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation will be led by former National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seug and will embark on a four-day visit. The group will carry a personal letter from President Lee, as confirmed by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.
The delegation will include ruling Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Tae-nyeon and Park Jeung, as well as Roh Jae-hun, son of former President Roh Tae-woo. "The special envoys plan to meet with key Chinese officials and deliver President Lee Jae Myung's message regarding the future direction of Korea-China relations and ways to promote mutual goodwill between the two countries," Kang stated.
During their visit, the envoys are scheduled to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday, followed by a meet ing with Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress, on Tuesday. They will focus on conveying the Korean government's commitment to enhancing the "strategic cooperative partnership" with China. Discussions will include ways to expand cooperation in areas such as the economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
The envoys' visit to China comes at a time when President Lee is planning trips to Tokyo on August 23-24 and to Washington afterward, for summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and U.S. President Donald Trump.
