LG AI Research Unveils Vision to Expand EXAONE AI Ecosystem

Seoul: LG AI Research, the artificial intelligence lab under South Korea's LG Group, has unveiled its vision to expand the EXAONE AI ecosystem, which encompasses everything from foundation models to enterprise-level AI application services.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lim Yoo-hyung, co-head of LG AI Research, emphasized the plan to secure global competitiveness through their proprietary foundation model, applying it across industrial sectors to achieve both versatility and expertise. Lim also highlighted the intent to collaborate with global partners to broaden the AI ecosystem.

EXAONE is LG AI Research's multimodal AI model based on a large language model, initially introduced in 2021. As part of its strategy to enhance the EXAONE lineup, the lab recently launched EXAONE 4.0 and a specialized pathology model, EXAONE Path 2.0, alongside agentic AI solutions for enterprise use.

At the media event in Seoul, LG AI Research also introduced EXAONE 4.0 VL, a vision-language model capable of understanding both text and images. Additionally, three new enterprise-focused AI tools were unveiled: ChatEXAONE, EXAONE Data Foundry, and EXAONE On-Premise.

ChatEXAONE is designed as an employee-tailored agentic AI program. EXAONE Data Foundry serves as a platform for producing high-quality AI data, while EXAONE On-Premise is a comprehensive solution that allows companies to build secure, in-house agentic AI systems.

Lee Hong-lak, co-chief of LG AI Research, mentioned that the evolution of agentic AI will soon lead to physical AI, a technology poised to change the real world. He stated that the development of physical AI technology will be accelerated to enable AI to recognize, judge reality, and alter the actual environment.
