Major Decline in KOSPI 200 as Most Stocks End Lower

Seoul: The KOSPI 200 index experienced a significant downturn with numerous stocks closing lower. Among the major decliners were HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Korea Zinc, which saw notable drops in their closing prices.

According to Yonhap News Agency, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries fell by 22,000 to close at 372,000, while Korea Zinc decreased by 22,000 to settle at 799,000. LS Electric also reported a decline, dropping 14,500 to reach 262,000. Other significant losses included HDKSOE, which fell 23,500 to 307,000, and LS, which decreased by 11,800 to 173,300.

In the automotive sector, Hyundai Mipo and Samsung Heavy Industries recorded declines, with Hyundai Mipo dropping 11,400 to 172,000 and Samsung Heavy Industries falling 570 to 15,720. The electronics sector faced downturns as well, with Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. decreasing by 4,200 to 181,100 and Samsung Electronics Mechanical dropping 3,700 to 138,600.

The chemical and construction sectors were not spared, as LG Innotek saw a decline of 3,800 to 152,400, and GS E and C dropped 500 to 20,800. Among retailers, GS Retail closed lower at 16,990, down by 370.

Despite the overall decline, a few stocks managed to see gains. Hyundai M and F Insurance rose by 100 to 27,350, KPIC increased by 200 to 93,300, and SKC saw an uptick of 300 to close at 109,000. Hanwha Solutions also reported a slight increase, closing at 36,450, up by 150, while HMM rose by 400 to 24,300.

The closing prices reflect a challenging day for the KOSPI 200, with the majority of stocks ending in negative territory. The market will be closely watched for further developments in the coming days.
