Seoul: A man was sentenced to a suspended prison term on Tuesday for smashing a police bus in protest of the Constitutional Court's decision to remove former President Yoon Suk Yeol from office in April. The Seoul Central District Court handed down an 18-month prison sentence to the 30-something man, surnamed Lee, which was suspended for three years. Additionally, Lee was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the incident occurred on April 4, shortly after the Constitutional Court upheld Yoon's impeachment following his brief imposition of martial law. Lee, in an act of protest, used a baseball bat to break the window of a police bus parked near the Constitutional Court. The court's ruling to suspend Lee's sentence reflects a decision to impose a legal consequence while allowing him an opportunity to avoid prison time if he adheres to the terms of his sentence.
