Manager Seol Jong-jin Encourages Kiwoom Heroes’ Fight Despite Setbacks

Seoul: The Kiwoom Heroes, long eliminated from postseason contention in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), are still pushing to perform under interim manager Seol Jong-jin. Seol has expressed satisfaction with his players’ commitment to maintaining a competitive spirit throughout the season, despite their position at the bottom of the standings.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Seol emphasized the importance of professionalism and effort from his team. Despite being out of the running for a significant part of the season, the Heroes have managed a .500 record since August, showcasing improvement compared to three other teams in the same period. Seol’s focus remains on treating each game with seriousness, a message that appears to resonate with his players.

The Heroes recently gave a strong performance against the second-place Hanwha Eagles, securing a 13-10 victory followed by a narrow 7-6 loss. In the latter game, the team showed resilience by overcoming early deficits, only to concede the decisive run late in the match. Seol commended their effort, acknowledging that they did everything possible to win.

Rookie pitcher Park Jeong-hun, in only his second career start, struggled on the mound, allowing six earned runs. Despite the setback, Seol appreciated Park’s desire for another opportunity, noting the young pitcher’s eagerness to improve. Park’s determination to learn and prepare for future games aligns with the manager’s philosophy of perseverance and growth.
