MENU RAHMAH: KPDN PROACTIVE IN SIMPLIFYING APPLICATION OF SPECIAL DISCOUNT CARDS – FUZIAH

NILAI, The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is always proactive in facilitating the application and approval of the Special Menu Rahmah Discount Card, thus allowing more traders or entrepreneurs to offer the menu.

Its Deputy Minister, Fuziah Salleh said this included improving the standard operating procedure for card applications, giving the card automatically to traders who previously offered Menu Rahmah and ensuring the continued approval of new card applications on the Menu Rahmah portal.

“Previously, we had a condition for the inspection (against the shops), that takes time… So, after this, if a premises offers one Menu Rahmah, then it will qualify them to get a discount card.

“Some also say they have the card, just have to register again and that slows down the process. If they used to offer the Menu Rahmah previously and their stall or company name is already in the system, they too are eligible (for the discount card). InsyaAllah, with this assistance, they can continue to help
the people,’ she said.

She told reporters this after presenting the Special Menu Rahmah Discount Card to 40-year-old ‘nasi ayam berempah’ trader Suzanna Hanum Ibrahim, who has been selling the Menu Rahmah since 2022, at a stall here today.

Fuziah said that, so far, over 2,800 traders nationwide have received the discount card after it was launched on Nov 2 last year and she encouraged more traders to register for the card.

She said the ministry offers the special discount card not only to restaurant operators but also to hawkers and food truck traders, thus helping them to increase their income.

She said that through the card, Menu Rahmah traders can enjoy price discounts of up to 40 per cent when purchasing goods like chicken, onions and other necessities at seven selected supermarkets to help them reduce the cost of preparing the menu.

She said the initiative is one of the steps taken to ensure the continuity of the Menu Rahmah Programme as an encouragement to further increase the number of restaurant
operators taking part in the programme.

“Many traders welcome this effort but, factors beyond our control like wars in other countries, affect the prices of raw materials in the country… some place restrictions on the export of goods and raise taxes. These are beyond our control and that’s why we are offering this special discount card.

“This shows that we are committed to helping traders who are sincere about offering the Menu Rahmah to help the people. So, we must ensure we help them as best as possible. We have also started a ‘one stall, one Menu Rahmah’ campaign. I hope more will take up our offer,’ she said.

She explained that the ministry is also committed to expanding and making the Menu Rahmah Programme more successful to ensure that the low-income group can enjoy eating outside food that is reasonably priced.
