Daegu: South Korea's top military officer on Tuesday visited key Army and Air Force units in a southeastern city to check their defense readiness against North Korean threats, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said. JCS Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo inspected the Army Second Operations Command and the Air Force's 11th Fighter Wing, both in Daegu, about 230 kilometers southeast of Seoul, and received a briefing on their operations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, at the Army command tasked with defending the country's southern regions, Kim called for maintaining readiness by coordinating with nonmilitary agencies, including the police and firefighting authorities. During his visit to the Air Force unit, Kim inspected its readiness against enemy provocations and unannounced entries into South Korea's air defense identification zone by foreign military aircraft.
