Seoul: The top military officers of South Korea and Australia held phone talks to discuss ways to enhance bilateral security cooperation aimed at maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region, as stated by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
According to Yonhap News Agency, during the phone conversation, JCS Chairman Gen. Jin Yong-sung and his Australian counterpart, Adm. David Johnston, explored opportunities to expand combined drills and personnel exchange. The conversation emphasized the importance of continuing the defense and arms industry cooperation, a topic previously addressed during the leaders' summit in Gyeongju in late October, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
Jin expressed gratitude towards Johnston for the Australian military's contributions to peace and stability efforts on the Korean Peninsula and in the broader Indo-Pacific region. He highlighted the significance of enhancing interoperability among friendly nations amidst a challenging security environment, as reported by the JCS.
