Military Prosecutors Indict Two Commanders in Martial Law Plot

Seoul: Military prosecutors have indicted two military commanders over their alleged involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s brief martial law imposition, as their detention periods are nearing expiration.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the special counsel investigating the case confirmed the additional indictments of Lt. Gen. Yeo In-hyung, former head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, and Maj. Gen. Moon Sang-ho, former commander of the Defense Intelligence Command. They face charges of perjury and violation of leaking military secrets and personal information, respectively.

The prosecutors have requested a new detention warrant for the commanders and have retracted previous motions urging conditional bail. Lt. Gen. Yeo is accused of providing false testimony during Yoon’s impeachment trial and at a court martial hearing regarding troop deployment to the National Election Commission during the martial law imposition. Maj. Gen. Moon faces charges related to leaking personal information connected to the establishment of a secondary investigation unit to probe election fraud allegations.

The indictments arrive as the six-month detention period for the commanders is set to end, with military prosecutors highlighting the risk of evidence destruction as justification for their continued detention.
