Seoul: The minor opposition Rebuilding Korea Party (RKP) has officially announced its backing for Lee Jae-myung, the liberal Democratic Party's (DP) presidential candidate. This endorsement was made public following Lee's significant victory in the DP's primary, where he secured an impressive 89.77 percent of the vote.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the RKP, a party founded by former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, expressed its full support for Lee Jae-myung after his nomination. The party's acting leader, Kim Sun-min, stated in a press release, "We declare that Lee is not only the DP's candidate but also the candidate supported by our party. We will dedicate all our efforts to ensure Lee's overwhelming victory."
Lee Jae-myung is currently the leading contender in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for June 3. This election follows the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faced removal from office after declaring martial law.
Cho Kuk, who previously led the RKP, stepped down to serve a two-year prison sentence starting in December. His conviction was related to academic fraud concerning his children and unlawful interference in a government inspection.
