MOE TO DISCUSS WITH DBP TO HOLD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS AT SCHOOL-LEVEL

The Ministry of Education (MOE) will discuss with the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to hold DBP anniversary celebrations in schools from next year to boost efforts in empowering the national language, says Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said DBP’s service, dedication and struggle should be introduced at the school level.

In another move to empower the language, Fadhlina said the MOE would also discuss with DBP to introduce books authored by national laureates as school reading materials.

She told this to reporters after attending DBP's 67th-anniversary celebrations at Wisma DBP here today.

Asked whether Malaysia is facing an education crisis when 30,000 candidates of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2022 did not sit for the public exam, Fadhlina said MOE would always carry out interventions to address various educational challenges such as tackling issues involving student dropout, absenteeism, and inability to master the reading skill.

She urged all parties to be inspired by the achievement of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Permai, Penang, and SK Kanchong Darat, Selangor that are shortlisted in the top 10 for the World's Best School Prizes 2023 recently.

"This means we can succeed in our mould," she said.

SK Seri Permai is listed under the Innovation category with their creation to lighten heavy school bags while SK Kanchong Darat is under the Supporting Healthy Lives category with their programme to encourage student attendance.

At the ceremony, Fadhlina launched the fourth edition of Gaya Dewan, a book which contains various information on publishing guidelines as well as WadahDBP, an e-magazine for local authors to feature their writings.
