National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik Embarks on Diplomatic Tour of Portugal, Italy, and Spain


Seoul: National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik will embark on a 10-day trip to Portugal, Italy, and Spain to discuss bilateral cooperation on supply chains, renewable energy, and other key issues, his office said Thursday. During his trip, Woo aims to strengthen international relations and explore opportunities for collaboration in various sectors.



According to Yonhap News Agency, during his visit to Portugal, Woo will engage in discussions with Portuguese officials, including Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco and Carlos Abreu Amorim, focusing on lithium supply chains, batteries, and renewable energy. These talks are expected to pave the way for increased cooperation between the two nations in critical energy sectors.



In Italy, Woo will meet with prominent political figures such as Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, and Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice President of the Italian Senate. The discussions will center on expanding bilateral cooperation and exploring measures to expedite visa issuance, enhancing the ease of movement between the two countries.



Woo’s itinerary also includes a visit to the Vatican, where he will meet with Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Cardinal Lazzaro You Heung-sik. During these meetings, Woo will advocate for inter-Korean reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula, while also affirming Seoul’s dedication to the success of the 2027 World Youth Day.



Concluding his tour in Spain, Woo will engage in talks with Pedro Rollan, President of the Spanish Senate, and Francina Armengol, President of the Congress of Deputies. The discussions will focus on partnerships in climate change and the pursuit of new growth engines, highlighting Woo’s commitment to addressing global challenges through international cooperation.
