Seoul: The National Assembly has taken a significant step forward by adopting confirmation hearing reports for the nominees for the positions of oceans minister and minister of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups. This move clears the path for the official appointments of these key ministers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, SME Minister nominee Han Seong-sook and Oceans and Fisheries Minister nominee Chun Jae-soo received approval from parliamentary committees after their confirmation hearings held last week. Han Seong-sook, who previously served as CEO of Naver Corp. from 2017 to 2022, was nominated in June to be the first minister of SMEs and startups under the Lee Jae Myung administration.
Chun Jae-soo, a three-term lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party, has been instrumental in shaping Lee's oceans-related election pledges. The National Assembly has now adopted confirmation reports for nine of the Lee administration's inaugural Cabinet nominees, all enjoying bipartisan support.
