Nat’l Pension Fund Achieves Record Return in 24 Years Due to Global Stock Surge

Seoul: South Korea's state pension fund announced on Friday that it achieved its highest investment return in over two decades in 2024, spurred by substantial profits from overseas investments during a global stock market rally. The National Pension Service (NPS) reported a 15.32 percent return on its investments, marking the highest performance since 2000.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the NPS attributed this strong performance to interest rate cuts in major economies and a rise in global stock prices, especially within technology sectors. By asset category, the NPS recorded a 34.55 percent return on its overseas stock investments and a 17.65 percent return from overseas bonds. Meanwhile, domestic bonds provided a return of 5.47 percent, and alternative investments yielded a 17.2 percent return. On the other hand, the NPS experienced a 6.96 percent loss on investments in the domestic stock market.
