Naver CEO Highlights South Korea’s AI Policy at APEC CEO Summit

Gyeongju: Naver Corp. Chief Executive Officer Choi Soo-yeon emphasized South Korea's strategic focus on artificial intelligence (AI) at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit. She detailed the government's initiative to construct an "AI expressway," positioning the nation as a leader in AI development.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi outlined the government's efforts to enhance AI infrastructure. These efforts include expanding tax incentives for AI data centers, streamlining administrative processes, and relaxing location restrictions. Choi likened the AI expressway to the information superhighway that previously propelled South Korea to the forefront of the global IT industry in the 2000s.

Choi further elaborated on the momentum provided by these governmental measures, highlighting the special legislation on AI data centers as a key institutional support for restructuring the country's industrial landscape towards AI. She asserted that these initiatives are laying the foundation for a human-centered and inclusive AI ecosystem.

The Naver CEO underscored the role of governmental and legislative actions in paving the way for a future that benefits businesses and the broader population. She also stressed the significance of international collaboration in fostering a reliable and inclusive AI environment.

"With the cooperation of APEC economies, we aim to build a partnership that honors each nation's distinct culture and diversity, while establishing global standards," Choi concluded.
