Seoul: New Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul has pledged to enhance compensation and medical access for veterans and patriots, aiming to better recognize their sacrifices for the nation. Kwon made this commitment during his inauguration speech following President Lee Jae Myung's approval of his appointment.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kwon emphasized his plan to address gaps in compensation by increasing support for low-income veterans and patriots, along with their families. He announced plans to raise the monthly compensation fee to ensure adequate indemnity for their sacrifices and dedication. Additionally, Kwon committed to improving medical access for aging veterans and patriots and enhancing benefits for discharged servicemen.
Kwon also expressed his intention to diligently prepare for the 80th anniversary of Korean liberation from Japan's colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. As the first veterans minister under President Lee, Kwon brings experience as a three-term lawmaker in the opposition conservative bloc, which he intends to leverage in his new role.
