Number of Trading Firms Reaches Record High in 2024

Seoul: The number of trading companies in South Korea reached a record high last year, data showed Thursday. A total of 273,252 trading firms were operating in 2024, marking an increase of 9,831, or 3.7 percent, from a year earlier.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this is the highest annual figure since the Korea Customs Service began compiling related statistics in 2017. The data highlights a growing trend in the trading sector, reflecting increased economic activity and market expansion.

Meanwhile, the one-year survival rate of export companies, defined as the proportion of firms that continued exporting after entering the market the previous year, stood at 49.2 percent in 2024. This figure has been on the rise since hitting a low in 2021, indicating improved resilience among export companies, as reported by the agency.
