Seoul: Even for Park Bo-gum, widely recognized for his wholesome and upright image, his character Gwan-sik in Netflix's "When Life Gives You Tangerines" feels like a significant role. "Gwan-sik is an amazing man. He takes good care of those close to him and treats everyone with deep respect, while also possessing a strong will and clear values," the actor said of his character in an interview with local reporters Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the actor, who plays the young Gwan-sik in the 16-episode series, expressed a desire to grow and mature through his portrayal of the character. Directed by Kim Won-suk and written by Im Sang-choon, the series is set on the southern island of Jeju and spans over 60 years, focusing on the lives of its main couple, Ae-sun and Gwan-sik, portrayed by IU, Moon So-ri, Park Bo-gum, and Park Hae-joon.
Premiering on March 7, the series has received positive reviews for its heartwarming story, showcasing the resilience of the lead couple in facing life's challenges. Park Bo-gum expressed gratitude for being part of the series, hoping it becomes a timeless work remembered for years.
Addressing comments that Gwan-sik seems too idealistic, Park believes there are many people who, like Gwan-sik, care deeply for others but may struggle to express it. Describing his character as happy and fulfilled despite sacrifices, Park said, "I've never felt sorry for him. Gwan-sik takes charge in his life, making his own choices."

He expressed excitement for the new chapter of his career, stating, "I am happy because I get to work, and just the fact that I can say 'I am happy' makes me feel even more fulfilled."
The actor looks forward to showcasing his performances in future roles, embracing the positive attitude and vibe reminiscent of his character, Gwan-sik. "I am excited to show you my performances, role by role, and I am looking forward to my next challenge," he said.
