Gyeongju: Prime Minister Kim Min-seok announced that the infrastructure for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju is expected to be completed by the end of this month. The announcement was made during the eighth meeting of the APEC preparatory committee, with the summit scheduled for October 31 in the city located 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed optimism about the progress, stating, "It appears that the APEC summit is now within sight." He emphasized that the infrastructure should be ready by mid-September, or at the latest by the end of the month. Kim urged the responsible ministries to ensure that all preparations are flawless.
Kim also highlighted the importance of cultural programs that will accompany the summit and recommended the establishment of an on-site situation room closer to the event date to ensure thorough preparation. He noted the growing international interest in APEC, especially in light of developments following the recent South Korea-U.S. summit.
The upcoming APEC summit is being viewed as a potential venue for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. This possibility was suggested by President Lee Jae Myung during his meeting with Trump in Washington last month.
