Police Apprehend Three Right-Wing YouTubers for Anti-China Protest Near U.S.-China Summit

Busan: Police apprehended three right-wing YouTubers who staged an anti-China protest near the summit venue between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in the southeastern city of Busan on Thursday, officials said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the group of YouTubers in their 40s to 60s allegedly disrupted a rally welcoming Xi to South Korea, near Gimhae Air Base, where Trump and Xi met for talks, and assaulted police officers who tried to stop them. They were taken into custody at the scene on charges of obstruction of official duties, according to the Busan Gangseo Police Station.

The YouTubers allegedly yelled slogans condemning China into a megaphone while hanging an American flag on a vehicle. They reportedly did not notify authorities of their protest in advance. Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the case.

The U.S.-China summit took place on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering held in the nearby city of Gyeongju.
