Seoul: Police on Tuesday raided Hyundai Engineering and Construction and other entities allegedly related to the collapse of an overpass retaining wall in Osan last week. The incident involved the 10-meter-high retaining wall of an overpass in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, located 52 kilometers south of Seoul, which collapsed onto the road amid heavy rain on July 16. The collapse buried two vehicles under the debris and resulted in the death of one motorist.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency dispatched investigators to Hyundai E and C's Seoul headquarters, the Osan City Hall, and the Korea Authority of Land and Infrastructure Safety. These entities were involved in the design, construction, and supervision of the overpass. The police aimed to secure data related to the overpass's design, construction, maintenance, and repairs.
Further investigations are focused on examining records of communications between municipal and disaster prevention authorities. The objective is to determine whether appropriate safety management measures, such as traffic control, were implemented immediately before the accident.
