Seoul: POSCO Future M Co., the battery materials unit of steel giant POSCO Holdings Inc., announced that it has secured a contract to supply electric vehicle (EV) battery materials to a major Japanese battery manufacturer. Under this agreement, POSCO Future M will provide natural graphite-based anode materials, produced at its Sejong plant, for use in Japanese-manufactured EV batteries.
According to Yonhap News Agency, POSCO Future M has not disclosed specific details such as the identity of the client or the supply volume, due to a mutual confidentiality agreement. The company emphasized that this contract with a prominent Japanese battery maker strengthens its competitive position in expanding global sales channels.
POSCO Future M is recognized as South Korea's only mass producer of anode materials for secondary batteries and is one of the few companies outside China capable of reliably supplying such materials at scale. This agreement comes amid ongoing U.S.-China trade tensions and Beijing's recent tightening of graphite export controls, which have led overseas battery manufacturers to seek non-Chinese sources.
"We have developed a wide range of natural and artificial graphite anode products tailored to customer needs and are also advancing the commercialization of silicon anodes," stated POSCO Future M. "By expanding our differentiated product portfolio, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and strengthening our supply chain, we will continue to expand our global customer base."
