PPP’s Campaign Co-Chair Voices Disappointment as Exit Polls Forecast DP’s Lee to Win Presidency

Seoul: A co-chairperson of the People Power Party (PPP) election committee on Tuesday expressed disappointment as exit polls projected Democratic Party (DP) candidate Lee Jae-myung to win the presidency. "We expected to be either slightly behind or in a slight lead but it is very disappointing that there is such a significant gap ... we find it to be somewhat shocking," Rep. Na Kyung-won, co-chair of the PPP's election committee, told KBS.

According to Yonhap News Agency, PPP campaign officials gathered in a situation room at the National Assembly were engulfed in somber silence as major broadcasters released their exit poll results. Exit polls projected the DP's Lee will garner around 50 percent of the vote, leading Kim by at least 7.5 percentage points.

Up until Election Day, the PPP had voiced confidence over Kim's win, saying the gap between Kim and Lee had narrowed in recent opinion polls.
