PPP’s Kim to Meet With Ex-President Park Ahead of Election

Daegu: People Power Party (PPP) candidate Kim Moon-soo is set to pay a courtesy visit to former President Park Geun-hye on Saturday, party officials have announced. This meeting comes just 10 days before the presidential election, highlighting its potential significance in the political landscape.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim will travel to the southeastern city of Daegu to meet Park at her residence later in the day. This visit marks the first encounter between Kim and Park since he secured the party’s nomination earlier in the month. Accompanying Kim will be key party figures, including Representative Yun Jae-ok, the PPP’s chief campaign manager, and party spokesman Shin Dong-wook.

Before his meeting with Park, Kim paid homage to the birthplace of Park’s father, former President Park Chung-hee, in Gumi, situated approximately 200 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Kim remarked on the significant contributions of Park Chung-hee, stating that the former president “laid the foundation for the prosperity we enjoy today.”

Kim also addressed the issue of former President Park Geun-hye’s removal from office in 2017 due to a corruption and influence-peddling scandal. He emphasized the need for full restoration of her honor. During his campaign in the region, Kim expressed remorse to the public, apologizing for “the many shortcomings of both myself and our party,” specifically citing the imposition of martial law and economic difficulties under former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Yoon was impeached last month following his declaration of martial law in December, a decision that has ultimately led to the impending presidential election scheduled for June 3.
