Presidential Office Considers Dismissal of KCC Chief Over Political Neutrality Allegations

Seoul: The presidential office announced on Friday its consideration of dismissing Lee Jin-sook, the head of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), due to allegations of violating political neutrality.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a conclusion by the Board of Audit and Inspection in July indicated that Lee Jin-sook breached her duty to maintain political neutrality. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung emphasized the seriousness of this violation, stating, "The violation of political neutrality is considered a very grave issue. This alone is very serious," during a briefing with reporters.

Lee Jin-sook, who assumed her role as KCC chief in July 2024, was appointed by the former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Her appointment has been under scrutiny, especially after the Constitutional Court, in January, rejected a National Assembly vote to impeach her. This impeachment was sought over allegations related to a contentious decision-making process within the state broadcasting watchdog.
