Seoul: The presidential Office of National Security (ONS) announced it held an emergency meeting in response to North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles. This action marks the first missile launch since President Lee Jae Myung assumed office in June.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the emergency meeting was attended by officials from the ONS, the defense ministry, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The meeting focused on reviewing the military's response measures and assessing the potential impact on the Korean Peninsula. The government emphasized its commitment to closely monitoring related developments, including the possibility of further missile launches by North Korea, and considering necessary measures.
The ONS noted that it monitored the missile launch in real time and promptly reported the details to President Lee. This latest development occurs just a week before South Korea is scheduled to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit from October 31 to November 1.
