Seoul: Impeached Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was questioned by prosecutors earlier this week in connection with their investigation into the brief imposition of martial law last month. Han appeared before the prosecution's special investigation team on Tuesday as a suspect in the case, according to judicial sources.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the prosecutors concentrated their questioning on the events surrounding the martial law declaration on December 3. This includes a Cabinet meeting held shortly before President Yoon Suk Yeol's announcement and whether Han himself proposed the declaration. Under the law, martial law can be proposed to the president by the defense and interior ministers through the prime minister, and it must undergo a Cabinet review before being declared.
Previously, Han stated that the martial law declaration did not adhere to proper legal procedures, emphasizing that he did not propose its declaration and that a Cabinet review effectively did not occur. Last week, Han informed lawmakers that he believed the martial law was "wrong" and "not normal," highlighting its "procedural flaws."
Following President Yoon's impeachment on December 14, Han assumed the role of acting president. However, he was himself impeached by the National Assembly less than two weeks later.
