Regulator approves plan to appoint new board members for public broadcasters

SEOUL: The broadcasting regulator on Friday approved a plan to appoint new board members for a controlling shareholder of a public broadcaster and two other public broadcasters.The plan was approved by Korean Communications Commission (KCC) Chairman Kim Hong-il and Vice Chairman Lee Sang-in, according to KCC officials.The approval came as opposition parties vowed to seek Kim's impeachment, citing a lack of transparency in the KCC.Munhwa Broadcasting Corp. (MBC) had filed a motion to exclude Lee from the decision-making process, but it was rejected.The three public broadcasters are MBC, Korean Broadcasting System and Korea Educational Broadcasting System.Source: Yonhap News Agency
