Ruling Party Pushes Forward with Extra Budget Bill Amid Opposition

Seoul: The ruling Democratic Party (DP) announced plans to unilaterally pass a supplementary budget bill during a plenary session, despite failed negotiations with the main opposition People Power Party (PPP). The session was scheduled to take place later in the day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, last-minute discussions between the DP and PPP were unsuccessful, particularly on contentious issues such as cash handouts for all citizens. Rep. Moon Jin-seok of the DP informed reporters of the breakdown in talks and confirmed that the budget proposal would be put to a vote.

The DP, holding a majority in the National Assembly, intends to advance the bill regardless of the PPP's participation in the session. The party aims to secure the passage of the extra budget bill before the current special parliamentary session concludes.
