Seoul: The state arms procurement agency of South Korea has taken a significant step to enhance its defense industry by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Brazil's defense ministry. The agreement, aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation, was signed by Seok Jong-gun, minister of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and Heraldo Luiz Rodrigues, Brazil's secretary of defense, during a ceremony.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the MOU focuses on promoting collaboration in research, development, and procurement of defense supplies. It also aims to expand industrial cooperation and facilitate personnel exchanges between the two countries. The sectors highlighted for cooperation include ground, sea, aerospace, and satellite industries.
The agreement seeks to leverage the mutual experiences of South Korea and Brazil in advanced research and development of defense technology. Brazil, known as the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic ties with South Korea in 1959, is a significant player in both economic and defense arenas. It also hosts Embraer, one of the world's leading aerospace companies, known for producing cutting-edge military aircraft.
