Yeoju: South Korean and U.S. troops held joint river-crossing drills this week in conjunction with their annual summertime exercise in a bid to enhance a combined defense posture, the South's Army said Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the three-day exercise kicked off Monday near the Namhan River in Yeoju, about 65 kilometers southeast of Seoul, involving around 300 troops and some 150 pieces of equipment. The equipment included KM3 amphibious bridging vehicles and ribbon bridge systems.
During the drills, troops from the South's 7th Engineer Brigade and the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division constructed a 280-meter-long floating bridge. They then swiftly crossed the river to complete the exercise.
The move came as Seoul and Washington have been staging the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise since Aug. 18 for an 11-day run.
