S. Korea-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be Held Next Week

Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong will sit down for talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Seoul next week.

The Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that Wang will visit Seoul next Tuesday and Wednesday at South Korea’s invitation.

The ministry said the upcoming meeting is expected to provide a crucial opportunity to discuss ways to enhance high-level communication and advance future-oriented bilateral ties.

The Wednesday meeting also aims to build mutual cooperation as Seoul and Beijing mark their 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties next year.

The ministers are likely to discuss ways to resume stalled denuclearization talks between North Korea and the U.S. and to restart the Korean Peninsula peace process.

During his stay in Seoul, Wang may pay a courtesy visit to President Moon Jae-in and extend an invitation to visit Beijing next year for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The last time the foreign ministers of South Korea and China met was in Xiamen in April.
