Wonju: The South Korean and U.S. air forces kicked off a four-day combined aerial exercise on Tuesday as part of efforts to bolster their capabilities to carry out joint operations, the South's Air Force said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Buddy Squadron exercise will take place at an air base in Wonju, 87 kilometers southeast of Seoul, through Friday. The exercise will involve the South's FA-50 fighter jet, KA-1 light attack aircraft as well as the U.S. A-10 attack aircraft.
The drills are designed to enhance the allies' teamwork and include safety and security education. Additionally, they involve training on close air support and surface combat patrol.
The planned Buddy Squadron drills will be the last such exercise involving the U.S. A-10 aircraft. The U.S. Air Force is set to retire the A-10 from South Korea this year under a modernization plan.
