Honolulu: South Korean golfer Im Sung-jae secured a commendable third-place finish at the PGA Tour season opener held in Hawaii, marking a strong start to his 2025 campaign. Im delivered an impressive bogey-free performance, shooting a 65 in the final round at The Sentry, hosted at The Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. He concluded the tournament with a total score of 29-under 263, trailing six strokes behind the champion, Hideki Matsuyama of Japan.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Im maintained a consistent performance throughout the tournament, recording only four bogeys and none after the third hole in the second round. However, his efforts were not enough to surpass Matsuyama, who finished strong with rounds of 62 and 65 over the weekend. Collin Morikawa from the United States claimed the runner-up position with a score of 32-under.
The event showcased 31 winners from last season's tournaments and 29 players who qualified by finishing within the top 50 in the FedEx Cup points standings in 2024. Among the participants were three South Korean players, including Im, who all qualified through their FedEx Cup rankings. This tournament marked Im's fifth consecutive appearance at The Sentry, and it was his fourth time finishing in the top 10.
Im continues to seek his first victory since his win at the Shriners Children's Open in October 2021. Meanwhile, his fellow South Korean competitors, An Byeong-hun and Kim Si-woo, ended the tournament tied for 32nd place at 16-under, both shooting 67s in the final round.
