Seoul: Samsung SDI Co., South Korea's second-largest battery manufacturer, has announced plans to promote its latest energy storage system (ESS) battery products at a prominent European battery exhibition slated for next month. The company revealed its participation in a press release, highlighting its presence at InterBattery Europe 2025, part of The Smarter E Europe, the continent's largest energy industry event, scheduled to occur in Germany from May 7-9.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung SDI intends to unveil a range of next-generation batteries with a particular emphasis on ESS technology tailored for the evolving artificial intelligence (AI) era. Among the products to be featured are the U8A1 battery, developed for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and the Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.5.
UPS systems are vital backup solutions that provide emergency power to facilities such as data centers during power outages. The SBB 1.5, another highlight of Samsung SDI's showcase, incorporates improved safety features through enhanced direct injection (EDI) technology. This technology sprays fire-extinguishing agents directly onto battery modules, effectively preventing overheating and thermal spread.
Samsung SDI stands as the sole Korean battery firm to earn a finalist position for The Smart E Award at this year's event, as stated in the release. The Smart E Awards recognize innovative products and technologies across five categories, including energy storage, electric mobility (E-mobility), solar energy, smart energy solutions, and outstanding projects.
