Samsung Seeks to Expand Healthcare Ecosystem with Galaxy Watch 8

Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday its latest Galaxy Watch 8 aims to help users enjoy a healthier lifestyle through features including sleep management and antioxidant-level tracking.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics Vice President Choi Jong-min made the remark during a briefing held in Seoul, introducing health-related features of the company's latest smartwatch unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 held in July. "If the existing healthcare system focuses on treatment, Samsung is seeking to put emphasis on prevention," Choi said.

"The Galaxy Watch will monitor (users') health conditions and provide insights, blending into their everyday lives," the official added. Among the key features of the Galaxy Watch 8 is a sleep recommendation program that tracks users' sleep patterns over three days to offer an optimized bedtime schedule.

The company said the feature, developed with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, went through clinical validation with Samsung Medical Center. The Galaxy Watch 8 is also the world's first smartwatch to measure carotenoid levels, which can be used to prevent various diseases, including cancer, the company said.

The device can give feedback, such as a warning when users consume alcoholic beverages, and induce them to eat more fruits and vegetables. "Samsung Electronics will continue to lead the future of healthcare, offering users better health management experiences," Choi said.

The Galaxy Watch 8 was released on the global market last month. Samsung, meanwhile, has been making efforts to expand its healthcare portfolio, acquiring U.S.-based digital health technology company Xealth last month.
