Samyang Foods Begins Construction of First Overseas Plant in China

Jiaxing city: Samyang Foods Inc., known for its globally popular Buldak spicy ramyeon, announced that it has commenced the construction of its first overseas production facility in China. This strategic move is aimed at meeting the growing demand for its signature product.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the company is investing 201.4 billion won (US$148 million) in the new plant, which will be located in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 840 million Buldak spicy ramyeon products and is expected to primarily serve the local Chinese market. The construction is scheduled for completion in January 2027.

Once operational, the new facility will increase Samyang's total annual production capacity of Buldak spicy ramyeon to 3.5 billion units across all production sites. Samyang currently operates three plants in South Korea and maintains overseas operations in China, Japan, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and the United States.

In 2024, Samyang Foods experienced a 45 percent surge in sales, reaching 1.73 trillion won. This growth was driven by strong demand for its Buldak series, particularly in the U.S. and China. The company's exports exceeded 1 trillion won for the first time in its history last year. Since its launch in 2012, Buldak ramyeon has surpassed 7 billion units in cumulative sales, generating over 4 trillion won in revenue. The product gained global attention in 2014 after its extreme spiciness went viral in a food-eating challenge.
