Seoul Experiences Season’s First Tropical Night

Seoul: Seoul experienced its first tropical night of the season on Sunday, as the capital's nighttime low was 25.6 C, the state weather agency said Monday. Seoul's tropical night was eight days later than last year's first tropical night that occurred on June 21, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea has informed the U.S.-led U.N. Command (UNC) of its plans to build fortifications inside the border between the two Koreas, marking the first notification of its kind in more than six months. The North notified the multinational command tasked with monitoring inter-Korean border activities Wednesday that it would resume construction of barriers and barbed wire fences on its side of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), according to the Dong-A Ilbo, a local newspaper.

South Korea's industrial production and facility investment declined in May from the previous month, while retail sales remained flat, data showed Monday. Industrial production fell 1.1 percent on-month in May, continuing its downward trend for a second month, according to the data compiled by Statistics Korea.

South Korean LPGA sophomores Im Jin-hee and Lee So-mi have teamed up for their maiden U.S. titles. Im and Lee won the Dow Championship at the par-70 Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan, on Sunday (local time), after beating the American team of Megan Khang and Lexi Thompson in a playoff.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has met with Russia's Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova in Pyongyang and discussed ways to further deepen cooperation in culture and the arts, the North's state media reported Monday. The meeting took place Sunday at the headquarters of the ruling party's Central Committee and was also attended by Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexandr Matsegora, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
