Seoul: South Korea will host an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) working group meeting focused on responding to aviation-related terrorism activities this week, the transport ministry said Monday. The ICAO Working Group on Threat and Risk, an expert group that analyzes current and emerging aviation security threats, will hold its 38th annual meeting in central Seoul from Tuesday to Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the event is co-organized by the ministry and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. It will mark the first time South Korea has hosted an international conference dedicated to aviation security under the ICAO framework. South Korea became a member of the ICAO Aviation Security Panel in 2022 and was selected to host this year's working group session.
This week's meeting will focus on identifying emerging threats to aviation security and developing effective risk assessment methodologies. More than 30 experts from 15 countries are expected to participate, including representatives from the United Arab Emirates, which currently chairs the ICAO panel. Participants will exchange insights on global trends in aviation-related terrorism and will aim to establish standardized global risk assessment models that can serve as the basis for future international regulations.
