Seoul: SK Biopharmaceuticals Co. announced on Tuesday that it has finalized an agreement to procure a high-purity radioactive isotope from Belgium's PanTera. This acquisition is aimed at advancing the company's development of radiopharmaceutical medicines.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement stipulates that PanTera will supply Actinium-225 to SK Biopharmaceuticals. Actinium-225 is essential for creating radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT), also known as radioactive medicines. The South Korean company did not disclose the timeline for the supply or the financial details of the contract.
Lee Dong-hoon, CEO and President of SK Biopharmaceuticals, emphasized in a press release that the agreement with PanTera is crucial for ensuring a stable supply of Actinium-225, which is necessary for the ongoing development of RPT.
In a related development, SK Biopharmaceuticals had previously signed a similar agreement in August 2024 with U.S.-based nuclear reactor company TerraPower LLC for the purchase of Actinium-225. TerraPower was established by Bill Gates, former CEO and co-founder of Microsoft Corp.
