SK Telecom Launches GPU Cluster Haein as Cloud-Based GPU Service

Seoul: SK Telecom Co., South Korea's leading telecommunications company, announced the launch of its graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure, Haein, as a cloud-based service for on-demand GPU access. Haein is a sovereign GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) powered by more than 1,000 Blackwell 200 (B200) GPUs, the latest artificial intelligence (AI) chip developed by Nvidia Corp., making it one of the largest GPU clusters in South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the introduction of Haein is expected to significantly contribute to nationwide AI infrastructure expansion and the growth of the domestic AI industry. The launch follows partnerships with global AI companies, including U.S.-based AI solutions provider Penguin Solutions Inc.

Haein has been chosen for a government-led project aimed at developing indigenous AI models to strengthen South Korea's competitiveness in the AI sector. The service is named after Haein Temple, home to a UNESCO World Heritage artifact, symbolizing its vision of building a cornerstone for sovereign AI infrastructure.

SK Telecom emphasized its commitment to expanding its GPUaaS business to provide robust infrastructure support, enabling Korea's AI industry to compete on the global stage.
