SEOUL: The South Korean business community has expressed deep sorrow and pledged support for safety improvements following a tragic Jeju Air crash that resulted in 179 fatalities. The accident occurred at Muan International Airport when a passenger jet carrying 181 people crashed, prompting a nationwide mourning period declared by the government.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry issued a statement extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing the immense sorrow they must be experiencing. The Chamber vowed to make every effort to resolve the aftermath of the accident swiftly and to contribute to creating a safer society. This commitment reflects a broader initiative within the business sector to support safety measures and prevent future tragedies.
The Korea International Trade Association echoed these sentiments, offering condolences to the grieving families and highlighting the need for societal unity in the face of the tragedy. The Association stated its intention to actively participate in developing safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
Choi Jin-shik, who leads the Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea, also expressed his condolences. He emphasized the importance of taking prompt measures to manage the aftermath and ensure that such accidents are prevented in the future.
The cause of the crash at Muan International Airport in the southwestern county of Muan is currently under investigation by authorities. The South Korean government has declared a seven-day mourning period, lasting until Saturday, in response to the accident.
