Johor Bahru: SPC Group, a South Korean food and beverage company, announced on Wednesday the completion of its second overseas bakery plant in Malaysia, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. The state-of-the-art facility is situated at the Nusajaya Tech Park in Johor Bahru.
According to Yonhap News Agency, SPC Group invested 80 billion won (approximately US$56 million) in the new Paris Baguette plant. This strategic investment is aimed at capturing a share of the US$2.5 trillion global halal market. Halal food encompasses products prepared in accordance with Islamic Sharia law, extending beyond meat to include fruits and vegetables.
Once operational, the Johor Bahru plant is set to become a pivotal production hub for the Paris Baguette brand. This facility will supply bakery products across the halal food markets of Southeast Asia and the Middle East, catering to the growing demand in these regions.
SPC Group has successfully expanded the Paris Baguette brand into 14 countries, exceeding 600 outlets worldwide. The company also operates a bakery plant in Tianjin, China, and is currently constructing a $160 million bakery plant in Texas, USA. With these expanded production facilities, SPC aims to operate 12,000 Paris Baguette outlets by 2030.
