Seoul: Special counsel Cho Eun-suk's team announced Thursday an extension of the investigation into former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law case by 30 days, extending the deadline to mid-October.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the initial investigation period was mandated for 90 days, set to conclude in the middle of this month. However, with the recently approved extension, the investigation will now continue through October 15. Assistant special counsel Park Ji-young stated during a press briefing that the reasons for this extension were formally communicated to both the National Assembly and the president.
Cho's team has been delving into numerous charges against Yoon, focusing on his failed attempt to impose martial law in December. These charges include leading an insurrection and inciting foreign aggression. Yoon has remained in custody since his second arrest on July 10 and is currently facing trial on charges of insurrection and abuse of power.
