Seoul: A special counsel team has summoned Kim Keon Hee, the former first lady, to appear for questioning on Thursday, following her request to postpone the interrogation originally scheduled for Wednesday due to health concerns.
According to Yonhap News Agency, special counsel Min Joong-ki's team announced on Tuesday that Kim is expected to appear at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The rescheduling followed a letter of nonattendance from Kim, citing dizziness caused by low blood pressure as the reason for her inability to attend the initial session.
This marks the fifth time Kim will face questioning related to accusations of corruption and bribery since her detention on August 13. Kim is alleged to have been involved in stock manipulation schemes, influencing candidate nominations for the 2022 parliamentary by-elections and the upcoming 2024 general elections, and accepting luxury gifts from the Unification Church through a shaman in exchange for business favors.
Min Joong-ki's team has expressed its intention to indict Kim as soon as Friday, with her current court-approved detention period set to expire on Sunday. This recent postponement is the third instance in which the wife of the ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol has delayed questioning, each time attributing the delay to health-related issues.
