TERENGGANU AIM FOR 75 GOLD AT SUKMA XXI

KUALA TERENGGANU, Terengganu are aiming for 75 gold medals at the XXI (21st) Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak which will take place from August 17 to 25.

The target is to enable Terengganu to bring home the Sukma championship title since last time in 2018 in Perak.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Terengganu would send a total of 1,076 athletes and officials to take on the biggest national sports event.

“Terengganu will participate in 36 of the 37 types of sports that are contested. We decided not to participate in basketball due to several factors.

“Preparations have now entered the final phase. Focus will be given to improving all weaknesses as well as strengthening the spiritual aspect to reclaim the championship,” he said at the Terengganu Sukma Contingent Assembly 100 Days Ahead of Sukma XXI here, today.

At the ceremony, Ahmad Samsuri also presented the letter of appointment of the head of the contingent (chief de mission) to the Deputy Secretary to the Government (Developme
nt) Datuk Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak.

Ahmad Samsuri also reminded athletes to take care of their health and safety, especially when undergoing intense and high-impact training abroad.

In the last edition of Sukma in Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu emerged as runners-up with a collection of 64 gold, 49 silver and 55 bronze.
