Seoul: The upcoming romance series "The Potato Lab" is set to offer audiences a refreshing escape, as its director promises a fun tale of unexpected romance.
According to Yonhap News Agency, director Kang Il-soo described the series as a heartfelt story about ordinary people who may not be glamorous but have their own unique struggles and emotions. The director hopes the show will provide audiences with a delightful experience akin to the simplicity and necessity of a potato in meals.
The new tvN series follows Mi-kyung, portrayed by Lee Sun-bin, a dedicated researcher at the Potato Lab located in a remote area of Gangwon Province. Her life takes a turn when she meets Baek-ho, played by Kang Tae-oh, a cold and strict director newly assigned to the lab. Despite their constant clashes, the two characters gradually develop feelings for each other.
Lee Sun-bin described her character Mi-kyung as having "extremely colorful personalities," characterized by her righteousness, fearlessness, and exceptional empathy. In contrast, Baek-ho is depicted as a cold, principled man sensitive to contradictions, creating conflict as he encounters the uncontrollable Mi-kyung.
The series marks Kang Tae-oh's first project since completing his mandatory military service in March of last year. Kang admitted to feeling nervous about returning to the set but credited the director for helping him overcome his fears. While in the military, Kang was captivated by the script, finding it unlike anything he had read before.
"The Potato Lab," consisting of 12 episodes, is scheduled to premiere at 9:20 p.m. on tvN this Saturday, with new episodes airing on Saturdays and Sundays.
